Mobile Data Scheduled Maintenance

How Mobile Data Collection Can Predict Scheduled Maintenance

One of our favorite features in our data collection and asset tracking solution is the Next-Service-Due Report. This little beauty provides true visibility and transparency into the status of individual pieces of equipment and asset life cycles and allows you to predict scheduled maintenance.

Understanding the Maintenance History of an Asset

Once an asset has been tagged with a uniquely identifying QR tag, all the information pertaining to that asset, including make and model, serial number, service records, engine hours, kilometers, etc. is conveniently stored or retrieved in seconds. This full-fledged historical background is more descriptive than a criminal record and certainly more appealing to have. Yet, it serves a similar purpose, only to different decision-makers.

Most people abide by the law and do not have criminal records; however, some take an alternate approach and live less wholesome lives. Imagine a criminal justice system with no historical data into the previous criminal dealings of someone who commits a serious offense. Decision-makers, such as the police and judge, would have no information about the accused’s past and he would receive the same sentence as someone who had committed the same crime for the first time.

On the other hand, fingerprinting acts as a QR tag for a criminal and all the past unlawful behavior for which they were charged is available in seconds once they have been identified. This historical data helps decision-makers choose a different verdict than they would if they had no information from the past.

In much the same way, the QR tag associated with an asset can store and draw up all the data relevant to that piece of property. This visibility greatly increases the level of informed decision making that can be made by the relevant people.

Determining Upcoming Scheduled Maintenance

The next-service-due report is an incredibly useful asset management tool to determine which vehicles within your fleet have an upcoming scheduled maintenance. Mobile data collection allows you to understand the status of your individual assets. For example, by recording data, such as engine hours, the next-service-due report will show you all the assets within a specified “buffer” of hours that have been previously determined to indicate the need for scheduled maintenance. For example, if you are interested in determining which of your assets will need servicing within the next 50 hours, the report will show all assets within that time frame, as well as all those that are overdue.

Make More Informed Decisions

This report provides decision-makers with the necessary information surrounding their assets and allows them to choose the appropriate course of action, with no guesswork, much like a judge basing a verdict on a criminal’s past.
